Oh, yeah. It’s got it’s own holiday now. And it’s so awesome--it’s gets a whole week!
Augusto has been singing the praises of the e-book for quite a while. And after being brainwashed inspired by him, I got a Kindle and put the Kindle app on my iPhone. Yes, I drank the koolaid. And I love my eBooks. And I expect to love them even more very soon (like on April 3).
There’s really a lot to celebrate about eBooks. They’re super portable. No trees have to die. They’re inexpensive. You can scan heavy or bulky materials and carry them around all the time, so you look like a genius in the moment that you really need them.
The flip side is that it’s hard to skim around. I didn’t realize how much I flipped around in books (especially non-fiction). When I pick up a printed work, I thumb through it. No thumbing through in the current generation of ebooks.
Despite the ease of mark-up, it’s not the same as the physical writing in, marking on, flagging pages kinesthesia I get from a printed work. I miss that.
That said, there is no doubt that ebooks have changed the publishing world forever. And it’s only going to get better. With the iPad, and whatever the iPad inspires, your reading world will be richer than ever with video, audio, and interactive/social media/who-knows-what-awesomeness.
So put on your party hat!
Cue music: Celebrate!
